fractal, clustering, photography, consumer, capture, organization, management We present an analysis of consumer media capture behavior based on timestamp metadata. We show that it is bursty and is not well described by a Poisson model. We show that it is in fact a fractal process, with fractal dimension characteristic of the capturer. We also present an algorithm for splitting consumer media into event clusters based on capture-time metadata, an algorithm for minimal labeling of such clusters, and a method for visualizing the results of such clustering on highly bursty data. We present results of the analysis on consumer photograph collections and results of the clustering using two software implementations, one for static organization and one for dynamic browsing.

Automated event clustering and quality screening of consumer pictures for digital albuming
In this paper, algorithms for automatic albuming of consumer photographs are described. Specifically, two core algorithms namely event clustering and screening of low-quality images, are introduced and their performance is evaluated. Event clustering and image quality screening have many applications including albuming services, image management and organization, and digital photofinishing. The...

This commentary explores the implications of increased social media marketing by drug manufacturers, based on findings in Hyosun Kim’s article of the major themes in recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning letters and notices of violation regarding online direct-to-consumer promotions of pharmaceuticals. Kim’s rigorous analysis of FDA letters over a 10-year span highlights a relative ...
متن کاملDigital Direct-to-Consumer Advertising: A Perfect Storm of Rapid Evolution and Stagnant Regulation; Comment on “Trouble Spots in Online Direct-to-Consumer Prescription Drug Promotion: A Content Analysis of FDA Warning Letters”
The adoption and use of digital forms of direct-to-consumer advertising (also known as “eDTCA”) is on the rise. At the same time, the universe of eDTCA is expanding, as technology on Internet-based platforms continues to evolve, from static websites, to social media, and nearly ubiquitous use of mobile devices. However, little is known about how this unique form of pharmaceutical marketing impa...
متن کاملEvent-based media processing and analysis: A survey of the literature
Research on event-based processing and analysis of media is receiving an increasing attention from the scientific community due to its relevance for an abundance of applications, from consumer video management and video surveillance to lifelogging and social media. Events have the ability to semantically encode relationships of different informational modalities, such as visual-audio-text, time...
متن کاملEvent Clustering and Classification from Social Media: Watershed-based and Kernel Methods
In this paper, we present the methods for event clustering and classification defined by MediaEval 2013. For event clustering, the watershed-based method with external data sources is used. Based on two main observations, the whole metadata is turned into a user-time (UT) image, so that each row of an image contains all records that belong to one user; and the records are sorted by time. For ev...
